Volunteers Wanted for Tallahassee Marathon

With about 1,000 runners expected to run in the 38th Tallahassee Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday, February 5th, all of the details of the planning for this distance event, which brings runners here from around the globe are coming together.  One of those details involves volunteers, and lots of them.

If you think you might like to experience what running 26.2 or 13.1 miles is like by witnessing it, or you just like the idea of helping out, here is your opportunity.  Attend the volunteer meeting at the Myers Park Community Room this Tuesday evening, January 10, at 7:30 p.m. to become a marathon volunteer.  You’ll get a neat shirt and a fun experience if you do. Much of the ground work to put on the oldest annually held marathon in our state will have been done by the time the expo starts on Saturday, February 4th at the Double Tree Hotel.  However, when it comes to race day, the number of volunteers needed for the event swells from a small group to about 250 people. Volunteers man the seven aid stations along the course, help with traffic control, keep runners on the course, help runners in distress, staff the start area, give out finishers medals, check runner’s bags, and help with clothing, food, awards, and post-race clean up.

At the end of it all, the participants in the 13.1 and 26.2 mile races tell their friends, here and in far away places, what a great experience they had running in the capital of Florida.  Many include the fantastic volunteers our race has as one of the truly outstanding reasons to come and run in this event in future years.  The race can’t be done without volunteers, who truly make our town shine.
