None. I like the famous Steve Prefontaine quote though. It is a gift to be able to run. |
| Brief Running History |
I started at age 42 when I was still smoking but sick of it (30 years); mom had died a month before & I was in need of stress relief and a way out of my addiction. After 9 months I was completely nicotine free and after 15 months I was able to run a whole 2 miles without stopping (late 2005) so I signed up for the 5k at Turkey Trot. I had to walk a bit but finished in 29:15. And of course I thought, maybe I can do this faster. I kept adding speed & mileage, doing my first half marathon at the Boston Mini (Oct. 2006) in just under 1:51 and my second at Tallahassee (Feb 2007) in 1:45. At that point I thought I could manage a marathon, and did my first at Albany 4 weeks after that second half marathon. I was happy with my 3:49:48 time…it was true, I really did do well at longer distances. Now in 2009, I recently had a 5k PR at the Sizzler (22:16), over seven minutes faster than the first 5k, and ran my marathon PR (3:38:36) at Boston a few months ago. It was my 8th marathon, which was celebrated by getting married to my inspiration & best friend, Jay, the day following. I recently did my first ultra (what was I thinking??!), which was brutal but actually kind of fun. I love seeing others discover that they can feel so much better through running, and even discover that they enjoy distance running. Maybe almost as much as I do J. |
