2012 Bowlegs 5K Run for Scholarships

Larry Giunipero and Bill Hillison, RDs, January 2012

The weather was almost perfect for the 2012 Bowlegs 5K Run for Scholarship held on January 7th. The race is completely a voluntary effort and we want to thank all those who helped, especially Annelise Leysieffer who did much of the coordination work. We also thank the over 180 runners and walkers who participated. The race proceeds support a great cause. It was initiated in 1985 by Leitch Wright (Felton's father) as a vehicle to raise FSU scholarship funds for The University Club (now Faculty and Friends Club of FSU). Originally it began and ended at Tully Gym. Subsequently, to avoid traffic problems, it was moved to Innovation Park beginning and ending at the Engineering Building. The race became a GWTC race in 2002. Scholarships from the proceeds (typically about $500/per student) are awarded to needy returning full-time undergraduate students over 30 years of age who maintains a 3.2 or better GPA. Prior to this year, 121 scholarships have been awarded and this year's proceeds will provide for a number more. We hope to see you next year.
