Summer Track 2009

If you have never had the opportunity to participate in a track event, you should take advantage of the meets GWTC offers every Thursday night starting June 4 and running through July 23.  Not to compare your times to elite marathoners, but because it is a fun and a very different experience than road racing.  The oval offers none of the distractions of the road – each lap is precisely measured and seems much the same as the previous one.  But that creates the opportunity for very focused running.   And if you have something left for that last lap, the finishing kick can make you feel like an elite runner.

Maclay School is gracious enough to makes its facilities available for these events and the meets include runners of all levels of ability.  The events alternate every week with the first week including competition at 40 meters, 100 meters, 400 meters, 1 mile, 2 mile and the 4 by 100 relay.  The next week the events are the 40, 100, 200, 800 and 5K.  The 40 meters is also called “the diaper dash” as it is a great way to introduce kids of all ages to running on the track.  The events kick off at 6:45.
