A Heart Beats On

By David Yon - 3/11/01

A heart beats on. Fortified by 50,000, 75,000, probably 100,000 miles of right foot following left foot on pavement, on trail and on track. The rest of the body lies ravaged by cancer. Pain sears nearly every cell and makes morphine the only haven. It can no longer support any quality life. Tim has returned home, said his good byes, given his thanks and asked for forgiveness. And now it is time to go. But the heart beats on strengthened by 50,000, 75,000, probably 100,000 miles of training and racing. In the end the heart will outlast the cancer, having left its mark on those it touched in this life and then finding its place to beat after giving up its tie with the body thinned so drastically by cancer that it can longer support the heart strengthen by 50,000, 75,000, probably 100,000 miles.

Tim's family is here and helping provide relief to Cora and Rachael. The food and support are greatly appreciated and they all send their thanks and amazement at the wonderful network of support. It is difficult, and often impossible for Tim to see people but your support continues to mean a lot to all involved.
