Tim Simpkins: Update 2/2/01

From Tim and Ray Wunderlich:

Hi everyone! A Mexican "buenas dias" to all.

Thursday night was a bit of a challenge for Tim. He still has extreme fatigue and most of the time his stomach is crampy/painful. We are trying some different medication, per the doctors, through his port, under his clavicle. This has helped somewhat but he is a bit dehydrated. The docs will give him some more IVs to quench this problem, to improve his hydration.

Tim is having many firsts on this trip that prove both insightful and thought provoking. Among them are: first time on a plane, first time taking coffee(although not in the usual, oral pathway), first time to another country and seeing Mexican culture, first time receiving varied and interesting medical treatments, first time weighing what he does now, first time using the computer and the first time he has had so many friends and loved ones unite in love, concern and understanding assist him as he fights to recover and win the race!

The language barrier can be a problem sometimes: to communicate our needs and get information for business and messages and scheduling Tim's treatment. I know a very small amount but not nearly enough to translate.

We are just getting into the routine at the hospital that has about 100 beds. The other people here are extremely supportive of each other and us, kind and full of helpful hints and shortcuts that help make the stay here more comfortable. Many are here for a second time.

Tim is staying optimistic despite his fatigue and painful stomach. Sometimes it all momentarily threatens to engulf him, but he fights back because you folks believe in him and because Tim needs to pay back Tim Unger, Greg Waddell, and Paul Hoover! Tim refuses to permit those guys and others to beat him and go scott-free.

Tim wishes Super Running and Racing to all his countless friends.

This is my(Ray) last transmission of Tim's and my thoughts. Tim's brother Mark will take over for a week or so and type away the updates. Keep on emailing Tim here! He loves to read your thoughts. He was the most persist I have seen him about anything here, that we have a direct line of email to YOU! He still intends to do his own emailing to friends once fatigue and stomach permit him to do so.

Keep on!

Tim and Ray
