Beaches Fine Arts Series Triathlon Makeup Race

Finally decent conditions, even the trip to Jacksonville went well without incident A decent meal and plenty of sleep we were ready to race. The Tri Gods were pleased except for the first sixty athletes. It seems the timing mat came unplugged and missed timing their bike and run splits. (Honest, I may be clumsy but I didn't trip over the cord but if I did it would've been for the last sixty people, my peers.)

The swim was listed as 1/4 mile, sort of three sides of a rectangle, go straight east, turn left at the first buoy and go north, finally turn left at the last buoy and head for shore. In comparing previous swim times, the top swimmer (Danny Domingo) swam 1 & ½ minutes slower (which would translate to 5 minutes slower in my case) led me to the conclusion that the swim course was more like a bent parallelogram. Either that or the tide came in and the beach got farther away.

The bike was very scenic, winding through the Navy ships, low flying planes and sailors on their way to the golf course. I wonder if the attack on Pearl Harbor was coordinated with tee off time.

The run was shaded and tolerable and we stuck around for the award ceremony and door prizes. One guy won a set of golf balls and remarked, "What do I do with these?" I mentioned that I had seen a Judge Judy show where the plaintiff carried golf balls when he ran to ward off attacking dogs and was trying to recover the cost of the balls in his settlement.

Overall, Tallahassee (and former Tallahassee) fared well in this race
