Local "cops" take no prisoners.......... but take lots of gold and silver, at the International Police Olympics.
Kathy McDaris of the TPD and Paul Hoover of the LCSO removed their flack jackets and holsters for the week of Aug 6-12 , and dominated their respective events at the International Police Olympics in Cocoa Beach, Fl. Hoover, a stellar local master's division runner, garnered 5 gold medals. Finishing first in the 10k road race. Then, donning his track spikes, he blistered the 3000,1600, and 800 meter track races, and joined 3 other gazelles as a member of the gold medal winning 4 x 400 meter relay team.
Not to be outdone, McDaris, an avid amateur triathlete, won 13 medals. 11 Gold and 2 silver!!!! Her events included bike races, swim meets, and a triathlon. In cycling she took first place in the 1 kilometer and 10 mile Time Trials, and the cycling road race. Then took a silver in the Criterium race. These total results also tallied an overall cycling gold medal. She won gold in the women's triathlon (swim, bike, run), and, as if that was not enough, she took to the starting blocks and lane lines at the swim meet; reeling in 7 more medals. A silver for the 100 Free, and gold in the 100 IM, 200 and 400 Free, and the 200 womens Medly relay, 200 women's Free relay, and finally the 200 mixed Free relay .
