Champ Days Middle School Cross Country Meets

As part of their Middle School Sports Program, Leon County Schools are staging a series of three cross-country meets this fall. Each meet will feature separate boys and girls sections; all races will be two miles. There will be an additional developmental half mile run/walk at the Everhart meet. These meets are an outstanding way for GWTC to get involved in youth running.

The Deerlake Invitational will be held Tuesday, September 21st at 9:00 a.m. at Deerlake Middle School. Kathy O’Halloran (922-6545) is the contact person. The Everhart Owl Run is scheduled for Friday, October 1st at Gretchen Everhart School, 2750 Mission Road. Contact person is Pam Jameson (488-2750 ext. 211). The City Championship Race will be run Wednesday, October 13th at 9:00 a.m. at Chiles High School. Scott Gowan (488-1756) is the contact person.

Gulf Winds Track Club has been actively involved with middle school cross country for ten years, especially with the events held at Everhart. Club members have traditionally helped with providing equipment and setting up the course as well as working the finish line, acting as course monitors and handling the scoring and results. In 1998, for the first time all participants in the Everhart Owl Run received t-shirt, compliments of the track club. The shirts were a big hit with the students and the club is again providing shirts for the Everhart race.

If you would like to volunteer to help out any of these races, please call the contact person for that particular event. Your help will be welcomed and you will be treated to some great competition and inspiring running performances
