Alice and Ernie Sims figure talking about helping kids is a pretty good thing to do. But these former FSU athletes believe that talk is just the first step in making things happen. And when they start talking about their kids, it is obvious that they are going to make something good happen. There is genuine love and a whole lot of effort going into their track and field program.
The Capital City Christian Cruisers Track and Field Club is an opportunity for them to reach out and play a part in the lives of 40 or so kids. Ernie was joined by Olympic Gold medallist and former University of Florida Track star Derrick Walker in asking GWTC to help their program out by purchasing warm up suits for the team. The club responded by agreeing to donate $1500.
The 1999 track schedule for the CCCC features 9 track meets including the AAU National Jr. Olympics, and opens with the Young Achievers Relays on May 8, in Jacksonville, Florida. Many of the kids in this program have had to climb some tough obstacles and needed help from people like Ernie, Alice and Derrick to find some stability in their lives.
Check out the season schedule and maybe catch a meet before the year is out.
