of the July 9, 2014 Board Meeting Hosted by Mike Burns

Present: Herb Wills, David Yon, Jackie McDaniel, Mark Priddy, Mandy Hudson, Nancy Stedman, Tom Perkins, Kathy McDaris, Eric Godin, Mike Burns, Charlie Yates, Justin Cromartie, Avery Bartlett, Scott Gowan, Jerry Chesnutt, Katie Sherron and Felton Wright

Felton Wright called the meeting to order at 7:29 p.m.  Quorum was established.

The Board reviewed the June minutes. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the minutes as presented.

New Business

Scott Gowan – Scott thanked the Board for selecting Avery Bartlett and Justin Cromartie as recipients of the Chenoweth Athletes of the Year award in 2014.  Both Justin and Avery also spoke before the Board and expressed their appreciation.

Mike Burns – Mike gave an update of the South City Multi-Sport Club. Approximate 20 GWTC volunteers have assisted the youth group.  Capital City Cyclists are providing bikes for use each week.  The participants swim at the FAMU pool on Saturday mornings.  Lifeguards at the FAMU pool are providing swim instruction to the kids.  Titus coaches are also assisting.

David Yon – David reminded the Board of the Board Orientation session to be held at his home on Sunday at 5pm.  This orientation is open to anyone who is interested in running for the Board or who might be interested in what the Board does.  David passed out a proposed agenda and asked for input from board members.

David Yon – David discussed moving the Turkey Trot Music Fest to Cascades Park this year.  There will be a “Tune-up” run on the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving that will start and end at Cascades Park.  Instead of charging a “race entry fee” for the fun run, David would like to ask for a donation from runners to one or more of the charities that the race and GWTC are supporting (Refuge House, The Shelter and the Boys and Girls Club”. A minimum donation of $5 will be recommended. A motion was made to approve voluntary entry fees for admission to the Turkey Trot Tune-up Run.  The motion was seconded and approved. 

   Tom Perkins – Tom presented a proposed budget for the Miller Landing 8k/5k/3k runs.  A motion was made to approve the budget as presented.  The motion was seconded and approved.

Treasurer’s Report –Jerry Chesnutt

There is $53,705 in the Club’s operating account that includes $17,531 in the Events 1 Account, and $13,090 in the Events 2 account.  There is $50,351 in the Investment account, $14,315 in the Chenoweth account, and $10,602 in the Tri Club Account. Jerry is working on the July 2014 – June 2015 Club budget.

Membership Report – Mark Priddy

There are 1,635 members in 802 households which is 18 more members than last month.  

Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates

Calendar is in good shape.

Newsletter Report –Jackie McDaniel for Fred Deckert

Nothing new to report.

Clothing Coordinator Report –Abe Middleton

Nothing new to report.

 Equipment Report –Bill Lott and Vicky Droze

Twenty new tables have been purchased.

 Website Report –David Yon

Nothing new to report.

 Chenoweth Fund Report –David Yon

The Capital City Christian Cruisers Track Club Requested $1,000 to assist with 22 athletes going to the AAU Jr. Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, from July 27 through August 2.  The Chenoweth Committee approved $1,000.  A motion was made to approve $1,000.  The motion was seconded and approved.

Triathlon Report –Kathy McDaris

There are 328 tri club members.  The YTS Kids race is this weekend (July 13).  It is the Splash and Dash (swim and run only).  The event will be held at Morcom pool starting at 7 am.  Volunteers are still needed.  Tri the Rez was cancelled due to not enough folks registered.

Lecture Series – Paul Guyas

Training Report

Mike Burns reported that the first week of the SMIRFs summer running group went well with 7 or 8 students participating.  Since that time, there has been between 12 and 15 runners participating.

Social Report – Eric Godin

Eric reported that the social at Madison Social went will.  There were 30- 40 people attending, fairly typical for the socials.  There will be an ice cream social on Thursday, July 31 at the Maclay Track.  This is also the last week of the Summer Track Series.

There being no further business to discuss; a motion to adjourn was made, seconded, and passed at 8:49 p.m.
