While most GWTC members were saving up their energies for Sunday’s Wilderness Runs at Fallschase Nov. 7, 1999, a few intrepid racers travelled far and wide to make their marks.

  • Jane Johnson was the 16th woman to finish the New York City Marathon Sunday with a time of 2:57:59. Husband Brent finished with a chip time of 4:17:52.
  • Bill McGuire brought home $250 from the Delchamps 10K in Mobile Saturday, where he took the GrandMasters title in 36:66. David Yon ran a 38:42, an indicator that his hamstrung hamstring is starting to cooperate again. Mary Jean Yon and Fran McLean were second and third in the Master’s competition, with times of 42:23 and 42:30, netting cash prizes of $150 and $50. Phil Yon rolled to a time just under 40:00 in the wheel chair division. Bruce Moore finished in 39:40, followed by Dennis Barton with a time of 43:50.
  • Pheona Kaiser and Tim Simpkins travelled to Tampa to run in the Bull Run 10K Sunday morning at the University of South Florida. Pheona was the female Masters winner with a time of 55:30, while Tim took the male Masters.Pheona got back to Tallahassee in time to run the Wilderness 5 Mile in 51:31.
