Event Information:
Date / Start Time: The race will start at 7:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time at the Mike Long Track at Florida State University. The address is Chieftain Way, Tallahassee, Florida. This course is virtually flat, and paved. Wheelchair and Early Starters: If we have wheelchair competitors, they will start at 7:25 a.m. Wheelchair participants must pre-register so we can make proper arrangements. Please contact the race director if you intend to participate. Please note there is a six-hour cut off for the main field. Anyone on the course after 1:30 p.m. will be 'swept up' and transported back to the finish area.
Tallahassee Marathon / Half-Marathon History: This is the 35th annual Tallahassee Marathon. Our first marathon was held in 1975. The Tallahassee Half-Marathon has been held since the mid-1980s. This is the sixth year it will be run from Florida State's Mike Long Track.
Aid Stations: We will have aid stations at the start/finish, and near mile markers 2/25, 4/23, 6/21, 8/19, 10/17, 11.5/15.5 and at the turn around near mile 13.
Weather Conditions: Weather in Tallahassee, Florida, can be very unpredictable. Average February Temperature for Tallahassee is a high of 67, and a low of 42. February is the fifth driest month with an average monthly rainfall of 4.63 inches.

Bathrooms / Port-o-Lets / Facilities: For Marathon runners, there are bathrooms along St. Mark's Trail at the trailhead, and in J. Lewis Hall Park. For both the full and half, there will be one Port-o-Let placed as you enter and exit the St. Mark's Trail, and one at Ridge/Gaile Street. Additionally, there will be a Port-o-Let near the full marathon turnaround. The FSU bathrooms will be open, but we do not have access to shower facilities.

Registration: You may register for the Tallahassee Marathon or Half-Marathon over the internet for a nominal fee with Active.com. Gulf Winds Track Club members are entitled to a $2.00 discount. Members of the 50-States Marathon Club, 50-States & DC Marathon Club, or Marathon Maniacs Club are entitled to a $5.00 discount. Registration/Packet Pick-up Information: Packet pick up will at the Residence Inn Tallahassee Universities at the Capital (600 Gaines Street, 32304-4308) phone (800. 922.3291, 850.329.9080) on Feb. 1st between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., and at the Governor's Square Mall central upper level above the water fountain on Feb. 2nd between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Additionally, we will have race day registration and packet pick up at the race site starting at 6:30 a.m. on Feb 3rd and ending at 7:15 a.m.
Speaker and Pre-Race Pasta Dinner: Saturday, January 31, 6-9 p.m. Details forthcoming.
Finishing Medals: Finishing medals for both half-marathon and marathon finishers.
Awards: Traditional age group awards beginning with 15-19, and continuing to 65-69, and 70 and up including a masters and grandmasters category for both genders for both races. Overall monetary awards $750, $500, $250,$150, & $75 for first five male/female marathon finishers, and of $300, $150, $75 for the first three male/female masters marathon finishers. Time bonuses of $1,000 for first male and or female to break 2:23:55 (male) and 2:46:09 (female). $500 for the first male and/or female master to break 2:38:38(male) and 3:15:59 (female). Overall top three male and female will receive platters, male and female masters winners, platters, male and female grandmaster's winners, platters, male and female 5 year age groups three deep in both the marathon and half marathon, ceramic mugs. All ceramic work will be done by local artist Brian Bachman.

Primary Sponsors: Their logos will appear prominently on our web site and T-shirts and their names will be announced as primary sponsors during the awards ceremony. Their names will be listed in all local printed advertisements for the event, and announced as sponsors in all local radio and television ads/interviews. They will be encouraged to promote themselves during the event and at pre-race events via a booth/banner and via inserts in our race packets. Primary Sponsorship level should be cash and/or goods and services amounting to $1000 or more. Secondary Sponsors: Their logos will appear on our web site and T-shirts and their names will be announced as secondary sponsors during the awards ceremony. Secondary Sponsorship level should be cash and/or goods and services amounting to $250 or more. Mile Marker Sponsors: Their logos/names will appear on the course mile markers, and will be listed on our web site. A Mile Marker application form may be printed from our web site. Sponsorship level should be $50. Sponsorship commitment form.
Charities: We are currently in the selection process for a charity , and one half of the net proceeds from the event will be donated to our selected charity. The remainder will be used by the Gulf Winds Track Club to support other Gulf Winds Track Club races and to provide better services and amenities at next year's Tallahassee Marathon, in support of our goal to provide a first-class event.
Volunteers: We are in great need of volunteers both on race-day and prior to race day. Please contact the race directors if you are interested.

Replacement Drink: Gatorade
Medical Emergency: Since we are a small marathon, we will not have medical tents along the course, but we are attempting to have one at the finish line. We will have police officers working with us, and all water tables should have someone with a cell phone to call in case of emergency. We strongly encourage all runners to be properly trained to complete the marathon/half-marathon. In case of emergency, contact one of the race officials and we will contact medical professionals.
Course Certification / Boston Qualifying: Both the Tallahassee Marathon and Half-Marathon are USATF certified. The certification numbers are FL-06020DL for the Marathon, and FL-06021DL for the Half-Marathon. 2009 Tallahassee Marathon times can be used as qualifiers for both the 2009 Boston Marathon, and the 2010 Boston Marathon. Course Cut-off Time and Event Timing: The official cut-off time for the Tallahassee Marathon and Half-Marathon is 1:30 p.m. This will give the participants six hours. A 6-hour Marathon pace would be 13:44 per mile. A 6-hour Half Marathon pace would be 27:39 per mile. Timing will be provided by Alta Vista Sports (http://www.altavistasports.com/). Champion Chip Timing will be used and timing mats will be located at the start/finish area and at the half marathon point of the full marathon. All participants will receive both a gun time and a chip time. Monetary Awards will be based on gun times, whereas age group awards will be based on chip times.
Discounts for Marathon Clubs: Members of the following organizations will be given a $5 discount on the Marathon or Half-Marathon: The 50 States & DC Marathon Group USA founded in Illinois is an informal fun group that shares a mutual love of running and walking marathons and ultras founded in 1989. The 50 States Marathon Club founded in Texas is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of health and fitness and the members share a common goal of running a marathon in each of the 50 states. Marathon Maniacs, founded in 2003, is a club of "crazy" runners of marathons and ultras, who feel distance running is an addiction. This group has ten levels of running accomplishments ranging from the bronze level to the titanium level.
