Herb's Firecracker Report

July 4, 2022

Some races change courses often. Other races change location completely. GWTC’s Tallahassee Marathon, for example, has moved all the way from Tallahssee to Wacissa and back again. The GWTC Flash 12K has moved from Chaires to Woodville To Saint Marks. Following that trend, expect to see the Flash on Dog Island by 2030.

The Firecracker 5K has also moved, spending 30 years in Greensboro before taking up residence in Tallahassee. It has been in Cascades Park for eight years now, most recently on Monday, 4 July 2022. Here’s what happened:

“Matt Mizereck and Sheryl Rosen were the cream of a crop of over 300 runners at the Firecracker 5K”

July isn’t the busiest month on the local roads, tracks, and trails, but Gulf Winds Track Club will be active. First, there are the final three all-comer meets in the GWTC Summer Track Series on Thursday, 7 July 2022; Thursday, 14 July 2022, and Thursday, 21 July 2022. Is ice cream involved at that last one? I’m not sure. The GWTC Summer Trail Series also continues this month, with Race #3 on Saturday, 16 July 2022, in Maclay Gardens State Park. It’s eleven kilometers, give or take a few furlongs.

After July comes a very full August–but let’s talk about that later.

Smooth trails!
