April 8, 2009 Board Meeting Hosted by David and Mary Jean Yon

Present: Judy Alexander, David Yon, Mark Priddy, Mary Jean Yon, Jay Silvanima, Seeley Gutierrez, Julie Clark, Felton Wright, Jackie McDaniel, Bill Lott, Fred Deckert, Charlie Yates, Gene Opheim, Robert McDonald, Tom Perkins

Judy Alexander called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m. Quorum was established.

The board reviewed the March minutes. A motion was made, seconded and passed by unanimous vote to accept the minutes as presented.

New Business

Apalachee Regional Park – Judy Alexander updated the Board on the work that has been done to the park to get it ready for use as a cross country venue. The draft license agreement has been reviewed by Board members and Judy forwarded the suggested revisions to Pat Plocek, Leon County Director of Parks and Recreation for the county’s review. Judy and Brian Corbin would like to stage a showcase event on August 1. More information will be available as plans progress.

Race Director’s Report – Judy Alexander, Springtime Tallahassee 10k/5k/1Mile
Judy gave a wrap up report of the Springtime Tallahassee 10k/5k/1Mile event. There were 1,299 registered runners with a total of 1,140 finishers in all three races. This represents approximately 300 fewer participants from last year. Kohl’s Department Store donated $500 to the race in the form of a grant to support children’s running. Net proceeds are approximately $6,000 with 25% being donated to Treats for Teens. A motion was made to donate the $500 received from Kohl’s to the Chenoweth Fund The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote.

Treasurer’s Report – Gene Opheim
The club has $76,630, which is an increase of $20l. The Chenoweth Fund has $14,577, which is a decrease of $795. The tri club has $1,024.08. The 2009 1st quarter budget was presented which compared predicted versus actual income and expenses. The budget is on track.

Membership Report – Mark Priddy
The club has 1,020 members in 569 households, including 46 new members in 28 households this month. Mark is continuing to contact previous club members who have not yet renewed and encourage them to join again.

Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates
Race calendar is in good order.

Newsletter Report – Fred Deckert
Fred received communication from several members who did not receive their April Fleet Foot. He is working with the post office to see if they can determine the problem and resolve it.

Equipment Report- Bill Lott for Kevin French
The cost to repair the Chronomix timer was $95. The public address system is broken and Bill is searching for someone to repair it.

Website Report – David Yon

Chenoweth Fund Report – David Yon
The City Meet high school track and field meet which was held at FSU in early April lost their major sponsor with short notice. Tom Perkins, on behalf of the meet, asked the Chenoweth Committee to replace the funding. The committee recommended donating $800 for medals and shirts for the participants. A motion was made to approve this recommendation. The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote.

Teresa Sancho, a representative from the Tallahassee Trail Blazers youth running club, requested $1,000 to assist the participants with expenses. The Chenoweth Committee approved $750. A motion was made to approve this request. The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote.

All American FSU cross country runner Lesley Van Miert requested $500 to attend the Peyton Jordan Cardinal Invitational. The Chenoweth Committee approved $250. A motion was made to approve this request. The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote.

Triathlete Report – Robert Macdonald
Bob reported that there are 118 Tri Club members. There were a lot of GWTC volunteers at the Red Hills triathlon on April 4, and Bob expressed his appreciation for all the support. He reminded us that the Tri Club meetings are the third Monday of the month at Momo’s Pizza. Ian Briggs, Owner & Head Coach at TRI3 Triathlon Racing Team, will be the speaker at the April meeting. Chuck Kemeny and Mike Weyant have held several swim clinics for members; and Ian Briggs has been working with members by scheduling cycling clinics. George Palmer will soon begin leading a half and full ironman training group for all interested participants. Bob reminded us that the club is still searching for a venue for a Fall triathlon or duathlon.

Lecture Series Report – Jay Silvanima for Nancy Stedman-Laux
Ian Briggs, Owner & Head Coach at TRI3 Triathlon Racing Team, will speak at Premier Health and Fitness Club on May 7 at 7:15pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Report on Tallahassee Fitness Festival & Wellness Festival – Judy Alexander
The GWTC rented a booth at the Tallahassee Fitness Festival held at the Leon County Civic Center on January 31, 2009. There was a lot of interest from visitors who stopped by the booth. Judy reserved a spot for the GWTC to have a booth again next year at the reduced rate of $181.94. Judy asked for the Board’s approval. A motion was made to approve this request. The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote. She also reported that the GWTC participated in the Wellness Festival held at the Agency for Health Care Administration earlier this month. A number of people stopped by to gather information about the track club. Several people became members or renewed their memberships at each event.

Old Business:

GWTC Awards Ceremony Venue Update – Jackie McDaniel
The GWTC Awards Ceremony will be held at The Retreat at Bradley’s Pond on the evening of January 16, 2010. This is the same day as the GWTC 30k/15k race which is also held at the same location.

There being no further business to discuss, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and passed unanimously at 8:56 p.m.
