December 9, 2009 Board Meeting Hosted by Felton Wright

Present: Jay Silvanima, Julie Clark, David Yon, Mark Priddy, Felton Wright, Bill Lott, Jackie McDaniel, Vicky Verano, Tom Perkins, Bob Macdonald, Seeley Gutierrez, Gene Opheim, Tim Unger, and Amy Antimucci

Bill Lott called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Quorum was established.

The Board reviewed the November minutes. A motion was made, seconded and passed by unanimous vote to accept the minutes as presented.

New Business

Tim Unger – Tim thanked the Board for the assistance of GWTC in acting as fiscal agent for the Florida State Employee’s Charitable Campaign (FSECC ) 5k race by receiving and processing entry fees and sponsorship checks and paying race invoices with those funds. The number of finishers increased by 167 runners this year and raised a total of approximately $5,000 for FSECC.

Tim Unger – Tim updated the Board on plans for the 2010 GWTC Team Racing. The Gate River Run is not offering team competition this year; however, the Racing Team will host a social after the race for GWTC members in attendance. The Azalea Trail Run will be held in Mobile, Alabama, on March 28. Tim does not plan to register a team since the date conflicts with the GWTC Springtime 10k and 5k races. There will be a team from GWTC participating in the Gate to Gate 4 mile race scheduled for May 25, 2009. All GWTC participants will be included on the GWTC team and are invited to a team social following the race. Jay Silvanima thanked Tim for the support provided to the GWTC team runners who participated in the Boston Marathon last year.

Jay Silvanima – Jay informed the Board that he had submitted an application to USATF for an event sanction for the 2010 Tallahassee Marathon. He asked the Board to consider applying for GWTC membership to USATF. A motion was made to support Jay’s effort for the Club to become a member of USATF. The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote.

Mark Priddy – Mark told the Board that it is time to renew GWTC’s Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) membership for 2010.

David Yon – David reported that the Turkey Trot accounting is not yet complete but the current net proceeds are approximately $26,000. This total includes “Turkey Trot Heroes” donations designated to go to the Tallahassee-Leon Shelter or the Refuge House in the amount of $3,750. A motion was made that $10,000 would go to the Club. The remainder would be split up to the charities as decided by David Yon. The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote.

Jackie McDaniel – In Judy Alexander’s absence, Jackie gave the race report for the GWTC 10M/5M Challenge. Attendance was down due to the weather. After all expenditures were calculated, GWTC’s profit was $905.20. In accordance with the race budget, half of the profit, $452.60 will be awarded to Capital City Rowing; the other half will go into the Club’s account. Judy requested that the Club’s portion of the profits go to the Chenoweth Fund. A motion was made to approve the Club’s profit of $452.60 be deposited into the Chenoweth Fund. The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote.

Gene Opheim – Gene reported that the Pine Run at Tall Timbers 20K made a profit of $668.45. In accordance with the race budget, half of the proceeds will be donated to Tall Timbers.

Treasurer’s Report – Gene Opheim

The Club has $96,402 which is an increase of $22,459 over last month. The Chenoweth Fund has $11,861 which is decrease of $1,493 over last month. The Tri Club has $2,972.93 which is an increase of $1,455 over last month.

Membership Report – Mark Priddy

The Club has 1,236 members in 703 households. To date, 607 members from 328 households have renewed their membership for 2010.

Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates

None

Newsletter Report – Fred Deckert

Gene Opheim reminded the Board to use the Club’s bulk mail account for Club mail outs.

Clothing Coordinator Report – Margarete Deckert

None

Equipment Report – Vicky Verano

Vicky reported that the Club may need to rent a larger storage unit for the equipment. She plans to rearrange the equipment and discard anything that cannot be used or repaired and will let the Board know if more space is needed.

Website Report – David Yon

David and Peg are looking at options for a new host site.

Chenoweth Fund Report – David Yon

The Chenoweth Committee received a request from Joe and Kathy Mizereck for $300 to assist with funding travel for Andrew Wills to accompany Matt Mizereck to the Foot Locker Cross Country Championship meet. The Chenoweth Committee approved the request for $300. A motion to approve the funding was made, seconded and passed unanimously.

Triathlete Report – Robert Macdonald

The Tri Club meetings are the third Monday of the month at MoMo’s Restaurant. The Tri Club has 170 members and 60 of those members have renewed their membership for 2010. The Tri Club finished 1st in the nation, in the large club division, in the Tri Nation Online competition. Seeley Gutierrez placed 1st in the Olympic distance events. The first project for 2010 is to have uniforms designed and available for purchase by Club members. K-Swiss has committed to a $1,000 donation towards the purchase of Club uniforms. The Tri Club may have a duathalon prior to the Red Hills Triathlon in 2010. The Tri Club is also planning a grand prix series for 2010.

Lecture Series Report – Nancy Stedman

Jay Silvanima reported that Nancy is planning a movie for January 8. The movie, Run Fatboy Run, will be shown at the Thomasville Road Baptist Church. More details at a later date.

Training Report – Julie Clark

Julie reminded the Board that the annual December Christmas Lights runs will be held on Wednesday evenings at 6pm through the month of December. The meeting location is Winthrop Park behind the ball fields by the kiddie park.

Social Coordinator Report – Kathy Lindsay

No report.

Bill Lott thanked Gene Opheim for his three year service on the Board and he thanked Jay Silvanima for serving on the Board this past year.

There being no further business to discuss, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and passed unanimously at 8:47 p.m.
