of the November 14, 2012 Board Meeting Hosted by Judy Alexander at Premier Health and Fitness Center

Present: Felton Wright, Lisa Unger, Bill Lott, Jackie McDaniel, Jerry Chesnutt, Mark Priddy, David Yon, Mary Jean Yon, Chuck Davis, Judy Alexander, Herb Wills, Fred Deckert, Gary Griffin, Tom Perkins, Bill Dillon, and Lt. Col Joseph Kelly

Judy Alexander called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m. Quorum was established.

The Board reviewed the October minutes. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the minutes as presented.

New Business

Lt. Col Joseph Kelly, FAMU Army ROTC – Lt. Col Kelly gave the Board a recap of the Army 10-Miler that he and several other FAMU Army ROTC personnel ran recently. He stressed to the Board how much he appreciated the Club and all the opportunities it provides him and his students to become involved with running and volunteering.

Gary Griffin – Gary presented the proposed budget for the Tallahassee Ultra Distance Classic 50M/50K. A motion was made to approve the budget, seconded, and approved.

Gary Griffin – On behalf of Bill Hillison, Gary presented the proposed budget for the 2013 Bowlegs 5k Run for Scholarship. A motion was made to approve the budget, seconded, and approved.

Judy Alexander – Judy presented the proposed budget for the 2013 Springtime 10k/5k/1M budget. A motion was made to approve the budget, seconded, and approved.

Mary Jean Yon – Mary Jean presented the final results of the election for club officers and directors-at-large for 2013. The results are as follows: President – Felton Wright; Vice-President – Lisa Unger; Treasurer – Jerry Chesnutt; Secretary – Jackie McDaniel. Director-at-Large Positions: David Yon, Herb Wills, Chuck Davis and Brian Corbin. There was a tie vote for the fifth position between Tom Perkins and Nancy Stedman. After discussion among board members, it was decided that the GWTC Elections Committee will mail another ballot to Club members to determine who will fill that position for 2013.

David Yon – David reminded the Board that it is time to renew RRCA dues to maintain the Club’s insurance. A motion was made to approve payment of the dues, seconded, and approved.

Treasurer’s Report – Jerry Chesnutt
There is $58,756 in the Club’s checking account with $6,076 of that belonging to the Tri Club and $2,306 is in the equipment reserve fund. There is an additional $50,351 invested. The Chenoweth fund has $11,659. Jerry created a form that he shared with the Board that will be used by Club race directors to assist him in preparing the yearly Club budget. The form will be posted to the webpage. More information will follow in the near future.

Membership Report – Mark Priddy
Mark reported 1902 members which is 46 more than last month in 1,084 households, an increase of 25 over last month. The membership form is in the Fleet Foot and will go in the Turkey Trot packets. By mid-December, a renewal notice will be sent to Club members who have not renewed.

Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates
Charlie sent the following email: “…I am monitoring the schedule via the internet and am unaware of problems.”

Newsletter Report – Fred Deckert
Fred proposed offering a reduced-rate membership to those who opt to receive the Fleet Foot electronically only. After some discussion among board members, it was decided to table this discussion until next month.

Clothing Coordinator Report – Jackie McDaniel for Paula O’Neill
Paula sold $85 worth of clothing this month. She will be at the Music Fest with Club merchandise for sale.

Equipment Report – Vicky Verano
Vicky sent the following email: “The SUPER busy rental months are coming to an end!!! We survived (of course only because Judy and Bill are so helpful, could not do it without them!!).”

Website Report – David Yon
Nothing to report.

Chenoweth Fund Report –David Yon
Chris Sumner is taking a group of area high school cross-country team members to the Foot Locker South Meet on November 24, in Charlotte, NC. He requested $560 to assist with travel. The Chenoweth Committee approved $560. A motion was made to approve this request, seconded, and approved. The Florida Athletic Coaches Association requested $1,500 to assist with costs associated with staging the upcoming Boys & Girls Cross Country All Star Classic to be held at the Apalachee Regional Park on December 1. The Chenoweth Committee approved $500. A motion was made to approve this amount, seconded, and approved. The FAMU Army ROTC requested $2,000 for travel expenses to participate in the Army 10 Miler. The Chenoweth Committee approved $500. A motion was made to approve this request seconded, and approved. Judy Alexander asked the Board to consider providing additional funds to this group from the Club’s general fund. After discussion among board members, a motion was made to match the $500 contribution made from the Chenoweth Fund. The motion was seconded, and approved.

Triathlon Report – Bill Dillon
35 club members participated in Ironman Florida. The Tri Club has 12 guaranteed slots in the 2013 Aquaphor New York City Triathlon on July 14, 2013. All 12 slots were given away at last month’s Tri Club meeting. The Tri Club will have their awards banquet in December and the Holiday Party is scheduled for December 17.

Lecture Series Report – Nancy Stedman
Nancy sent the following email: “10 of the 12 people signed up for the CPR class on 11/3 did attend and are going to be sent $33 reimbursement checks. Michael Wardian & Karen Harvey will be speaking at the marathon expo on 2/2/13 and all GWTC members are welcome to attend this. Dr. George Merritt is tentatively scheduled as a guest lecturer on Friday, March 1, 2013.
With the exception of retaining speaker(s) for the marathon, I am seeking a replacement for Lecture Series Coordinator to take over after Dr. Merritt’s talk.”

Training Report – Chuck Davis
The final Turkey Trot training run will be Monday, November 19. There were between 40 and 50 runners who attended each week. The Trail Blazers training group will start again on April 8.

Social Coordinator Report –Elizabeth Stupi and Judy Alexander
Judy informed the Board that the Holiday Party will be held December 15 at the American Legion Hall at Lake Ella. GWTC and Capital City Cyclists will not have a joint party as they have had the last few years. Elizabeth is asking for help to set up and clean up.

There being no further business to discuss, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and passed at 9:10 p.m.
