On a Mission

by Kristin Sweeney, October 3, 2011

Even though many of Tallahassee’s teams took a weekend off from competition, there were some spectacular performances from area athletes. Chiles’ ladies were quite impressive at the Jesse Owens Cross Country Invitational in Oakville, Alabama. Lily Williams not only won the Girls’ Gold Elite division, but she also ran a personal record time of 17:29 breaking the course record and going the fastest time out of all Florida’s ladies so far this season! Her teammates Carly Thomas (18:02) and Rachel Givens (18:18) also raced well, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Overall, the Chiles ladies won by over 100 points, and their team average was 18:37. Later, their male counterparts finished eighth, led by Taylor Buzzard (16:11) in twenty-third.

Farther south in Pensacola, Lincoln ventured to the Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede. Their ladies were tenth in the varsity division. Jacob Slupecki finished in 16:34, placing fourteenth, and leading his team to seventh. At yet another race, Leon also ran well last weekend. At Bale-n-Trail in Jacksonville, Autumn Wable ran a personal record of 19:57, dipping under the 20-minute barrier for the first time! Her efforts helped the Lady Lions to finish thirteenth in a competitive field. Will Henderson led the Lions to sixth with his fifth place 16:27. Running a personal record of 16:40, Ben McMahon was thirteenth! This weekend was very successful with many personal records. Now that the weather is starting to cool, hopefully the times will improve even more!

The Season Ends (2013-05-10)

The final high school meet of the season for Tallahassee athletes played out last Friday. Chiles, Leon, and Lincoln competed at the 3A State Meet, which was also held at UNF in Jacksonville. Unfortunately, they did not have the same weather that 1A and 2A...

Another Year Ends 2012-11-21

After hours of work from Tallahassee’s runners, coaches, and community, the 2012 cross-country season reached its end at the state meet last Saturday. As a senior, it was a day of memories, excitement, and sadness. For Tallahassee runners, the state meet...

Regions at Sunny Hill Farm

Chiles worked hard to prepare the course for last weekend’s races, and their labor was definitely worth it. Their course at Sunny Hill Farm was perfect for the 1A, 2A, and 3A Region 1 meets. Thank you to everyone in the community who helped with this race...

Panhandling 2012

While this is slightly delayed (college applications have been life consuming these days), a report from last weekend’s Panhandle Championship is imperative. The gorgeous weather, the slew of personal records, and presence of every Tallahassee cross...

FSU Invitational/Pre-state Race

As I pulled off Apalachee Parkway into Apalachee Regional Park, I was surprised to see the football fields covered in cars. After parking as far away as possible from the starting line, I started the trek toward the race scene. It was an awesome walk....

Away from Home 2012-09-27

For the first time since this season started, Tallahassee did not host a meet! This meant that high schools either traveled to other venues to compete, or they took a weekend off to rest and recover. Most teams ventured to the Alligator Lake XC...
