GWTC is looking forward to another year of successful traveling racing teams. Last year the GWTC racing teams claimed awards at Gate River Run, (Women’s 2nd overall); Azalea Trail, (First men’s overall); Fiesta, (second mixed team); Gate to Gate, (second mixed team); and second place male team in the Summer Beach Run. The 2004 season begins with the Blue Angel Marathon on February 28th. If I receive enough responses from interested runners who are trained and ready to run the BAM, we will field a team for the event. The Team entry for the Blue Angel marathon is due by February 20th, so time is running out.

Anyone interested in running on one of the Gate River Run teams will need to submit their individual entries now in order to receive the best possible seeding numbers. River Run applications are available at Gate service stations and also at www.1stplacesports.com. You can also call the race hotline at 904-731-1900 or register on-line at WWW.GATE-RIVERRUN.COM Teams will be determined by each runner’s seeding numbers, and the earlier you register the better your chance of getting a good number. The course has changed this year and competition, both within GWTC for team positions and at the race itself, promises to be fierce. Runner’s World calls Gate River Run “One of the top 100 races” and claims, “Gate River Run is a race you don’t want to miss.” GWTC Gate River Run teams will be formalized by the first week of March for the 4 available open categories. So far there are 50 identified Tallahassee runners pre-registered for the Gate River Run.

The Azalea Trail 10k is also just around the corner. I have had a few responses from men, but no women. GWTC members, especially ladies, who are going to Mobile to run the Azalea Trail should contact me as soon as possible to be included on the team.

GWTC will attempt to field traveling teams for the following races in 2004:

1) Blue Angel Marathon, Pensacola NAS. February 28. 2004.
2) Gate River Run 15k, Jacksonville, March 13. 2004.
3) Azalea Trail Run 10k, Mobile, Alabama, March 27. 2004.
4) Fiesta 10k, Pensacola, May 1. 2004.
5) Gate to Gate 4.4 mile, Eglin AFB. Monday, May 31.2004.
6) Jacksonville Summer Beach 5 Mile Run, August 21. 2004

Runners interested in participating on GWTC teams for any of the above races should contact Tim Unger at 850-562-2901 or ungertl@juno.com for more details.
