A Smile on the 20th Flash

David Yon, Febuary 16, 2008

Saturday, Joe Dexter directed his 20th Flash 12K. It was the 20th edition of the race, so if you passed math you know there was no Flash before Joe. He got very lucky and picked up Nadine as a co-director along the way, but the Flash has remained a Dexter production. This morning the weather gods smiled favorably on the race as perfect weather (40’s at the started) greeted 131 runners at J. Lewis Hall Park. Remember last year? I saw 19 on one thermometer heading to the race.

Tripp Southerland made the most of the good conditions to win the race in a time of 43:10, his third win of the 2008 season. John Robia and Vince Molosky kept Southerland honest pushing him most of the race before finishing in 43:27 and 43:55, respectfully. The masters winner was Tim Unger who ran 44:57 to claim that title. The top woman was Stephanie Liles who ran 50:56. Angela Dempsey came home in 54:55 to take second. The masters winner was Kirsten Baggett. Despite the great weather, none of the times were good enough to break the top ten fastest times overall or masters.
