Gulf Winds Track Club Minutes

of the April 9, 2014 Board Meeting Hosted by David and Mary Jean Yon

Present: Herb Wills, Mary Jean Yon, David Yon, Jackie McDaniel, Jerry Chesnutt, Bill Lott, Mike Burns, Amanda Hudson, Nancy Stedman, Tom Perkins, Kathy McDaris, Jay Silvanima, Katie Sherron, Eric Godin, Jennifer Kilinski, Lisa Unger, Jonathan Manry, Mark Priddy, Bobby York, and Felton Wright

Felton Wright called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.  Quorum was established.

The Board reviewed the March minutes. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the minutes as presented.

New Business

Felton Wright – Felton announced that he was adding Paula O’Neill, Tony Guillen, and Cole Tessier to the Grand Prix Committee.  He also announced that due to term limits, Jeanne O’Kon would be leaving the Grand Prix Committee.  A motion was made to recognize Jeanne and thank her for all the time she worked on the Committee.

Felton Wright  – Felton announced that the Trailblazers would start again on Monday, April 14.  The first run will be at Tom Brown Park.  Abe Middleton will be coordinating the runs. 

Jay Silvanima and Nancy Stedman – Jay and Nancy provided a wrap-up report on the 2014 Tallahassee Marathon and Half Marathon.   Net proceeds were $25,199 with half of it going to the American Lung Association.  They also presented a proposed budget for the 2015 marathon and half marathon.  A motion was made to accept the budget as presented, seconded, and approved.

Jennifer Kilinski- Jennifer provided information to board members about the 95210 Eating the Rainbow program that Leon County Schools have adopted to teach children how to live healthy lives.  The South City neighborhood in Tallahassee is in need of mentoring and financial assistance to involve the youth of that area in this program and assist them in becoming move active and living healthier lives.  Jennifer asked the Board to write a letter of intent stating that the Club is willing to provide resources and advertising to support this effort.  Examples of support could be in the form of volunteers leading running and walking groups.  A motion was made that the Board pass a resolution supporting conceptually the idea and that the club president appoint a committee to work with Jennifer.  The motion was seconded, and approved. 

Felton Wright – Felton had a request from Gary Droze for assistance.  Gary is attending the 2014 Level 2 Coaches program in Indianapolis.   He has been raising funds for the trip but still needs $225 for car rental for a week.  A motion was made to approve the request, seconded, and approved. 

Bobby York – Bobby presented a proposed budget for the Summer Trail Series.  A motion was made to accept the budget, seconded, and approved. 

Treasurer’s Report – Jerry Chesnutt 
There is $46,622 in the Club’s operating account that includes $23,196 in the Events 1 Account, and $12,174 in the Events 2 account.  There is $50,351 in the Investment account, $15,315 in the Chenoweth account, $17,007 in the equipment replacement account, and $8,023 in the Tri-Club account.

Membership Report – Mark Priddy 
There are 1,538 members which is 65 more members than last month.   There are 315 Tri Club members.

Newsletter Report –Jackie McDaniel for Fred Deckert
Nothing new to report.

Clothing Coordinator Report –Abe Middleton via Email
Abe and Sara sold less than $100 worth of clothing this month due largely to the fact that they are out of almost everything except long sleeve shirts.  They ordered 30 Ultra SeatShield seat covers and are having a vinyl GWTC logo printed on them. They also ordered 30 more HeadSweats visors, which should be here by the end of the month.

Equipment Report –Bill Lott for Vicky Droze
Equipment rentals are very active.  Vicky recently ordered new road signs.

Old race results are being updated and posted on the webpage.

Chenoweth Fund Report –David Yon
A request from Lincoln High School was made for financial assistance with purchasing uniforms and repairing hurdles and other equipment.  The request was for $2,000.  The Chenoweth Committee approved $1,000.  A motion was made to approve $1,000, seconded, and approved. 

Triathlon Report –Kathy McDaris 
The Tri Club organized an open water swim recently and 57 swimmers attended.  The recent Redhills Triathlon went well.  Marci Gray will be speaking on injury prevention at the next club meeting.

Lecture Series – Paul Guyas

Training Report 
Nothing new to report.

Social Report – Eric Godin 
The third social event was held at Tom Brown Park with approximately 40 people attending.  Most attendees are long-term members.  Next month will probably be a bowling social.  More information about this event in the near future.

Other
David Yon reported that Brian Hickey of the Tallahassee Sports Council informed him that the council plans to host several USATF cross country events in 2015 and 2016.  They asked if GWTC would partner with them. David plans to bring more information to the Board next month.

There being no further business to discuss; a motion to adjourn was made, seconded, and passed at 8:31 p.m.
