Tony’s Footprint

 GWTC President, Tony Guillen,

“There go the people. I must follow them for I am their leader.” Alexandre Ledru-Rollin

Mark O’Neill deserves some credit for this month’s column, although he may not want any once I am done writing. As I struggle more each month to put some thoughts into words I look for sources for ideas and inspiration. This morning I read a Facebook post from Mark about listening to separate interviews on NPR with Marci Gray and Mickey Moore. Paul referred to them as examples of “those underperforming GWTC folks.” I could not agree more.

Take a moment and go through your mental list of members and think about their accomplishments outside of running. We have amazing leaders from all areas of life. We have the attorneys, financial planners, former legislators and doctors. We also have some of the best teachers, church leaders, political activists, business owners and, of course, race directors as members of our clubs. This is much more than just a running club in its impact on our community, but I suspect everyone already knew that. As for Mr. Ledru-Rollin, I can’t find when he served as club president, but he must have served sometime based on his quote.

Speaking of great leadership, we have our two GWTC races on the horizon. Amanda and Sean Hudson have done a great job taking on the leadership role for the Springtime 10k/5k/1m. It should be another great edition on March 28. Two weeks later on April 11 it is the next running of the Palace Saloon 5k. Under the watchful eye of Mike Burns, this has continued to be one of the most look forward to events of the year on the GWTC calendar.

See you on the roads,
Tony
