Gulf Winds Track Club Minutes

of the August 13, 2014 Board Meeting Hosted by Jerry Chesnutt

Present: Herb Wills, David Yon, Jackie McDaniel, Mandy Hudson, Kathy McDaris, Jerry Chesnutt, Katie Sherron, Bobby York, Mary Jean Yon, Roger Schmidt, Bill Lott, and Felton Wright

Felton Wright called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m.  Quorum was established.

The Board reviewed the July minutes. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the minutes as presented.

New Business

Roger Schmidt – Roger gave an update on the Summer SMIRF program.  The six-week program ended with approximately 30 to 40 kids participating.  Each week, 10 to 15 kids would attend.  Most of the participants were in the 5th to 8th grades.  Roger suggests next year getting the word out several months prior to the start of the program.  Suggestions were made to email parents on the school list serves, advertise in the Tallahassee Democrat when they publish summer camps, and contact school coaches to let them know of the program. Felton thanked Roger for taking the lead on this program.

Bobby York  – This year’s summer trail series has ended after four races.  Approximately 170 runners participated.  There were net proceeds of $2,589.81. Bobby asked that $500 be donated to the Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association and $500 be donated to the Friends of our Parks.  A motion was made to make these donations as requested.  The motion was seconded and approved. Bobby also mentioned that he will be organizing another Trail Marathon (and shorter races) in January.

Felton Wright – Felton confirmed that the members on the Committee on Nominations are Mary Jean Yon, Peg Griffin, Bobby York and Andy Roberts.  He is planning to hold a business meeting in early October and at that time, the slate of people running for GWTC elected offices will be presented. 

Felton Wright  – Felton reported that the Beginning Runners coaches had requested $300 for awards to be presented to new runners completing the entire course.  A motion was made to approve the request for $300.  The motion was seconded and approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report –Jerry Chesnutt 
There is $62,263 in the Club’s operating account that includes $11,019 in the Events 1 Account, and $13,090 in the Events 2 account.  There is $50,351 in the Investment account, $12,815 in the Chenoweth account and $10,637 in the Tri Club Account. Jerry asked for feedback from the board members on his draft budget for 2014 – 2015. 

Membership Report – Mark Priddy by email
There are 1,659 members in 814 households which is 24 more members and 12 more households than last month.   There are 337 Tri Club members which is 9 more than last month.

Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates 
Nothing new to report.

Newsletter Report –Jackie McDaniel for Fred Deckert
Nothing new to report.

Clothing Coordinator Report –Abe Middleton 
Nothing new to report.

Equipment Report –Bill Lott and Vicky Droze
One of the Chronomix timing devices is broken and is being repaired.  Mats to protect the timing mats from runners wearing spikes at the upcoming Breakfast on the Track event have been ordered. 

Website Report –David Yon
Nothing new to report.

Chenoweth Fund Report –David Yon
A request was made on behalf of Godby High School to assist with an upcoming cross-country meet.  The request was for $1,000.  A motion was made to approve the request subject to the final approval of the Chenoweth Committee.  The motion was seconded and approved.

Triathlon Report –Kathy McDaris 
Tri the Rez was cancelled due to the low number of people registering.  The South Side kids training group is going strong.  Some of the Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association members are also working with this group.  Capital City Runners donated shoes to the kids.

Lecture Series – Paul Guyas
“Ask the Experts” lecture will be held Sunday, August 17, at 4:00 p.m., at Beef O’ Bradys on Thomasville Rd.  Confirmed panelists include: running coaches Gary Droze & Stephen Cox, triathlete coach and physical therapist Marci Gray, triathlete and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Bill Thompson.

Training Report 
The Beginning Runners training group will begin Wednesday, September 17, at the FSU track starting at 6 p.m.

Social Report – Eric Godin via email
Eric is planning a social in late August.  More info in the near future.

There being no further business to discuss; a motion to adjourn was made, seconded, and passed at 8:27 p.m.
