Gulf Winds Track Club Minutes

of the December 11, 2013 Board Meeting Hosted by Mark Priddy

Present: Mark Priddy, Herb Wills, Mary Jean Yon, David Yon, Tony Guillen, Lisa Unger, Jackie McDaniel, Jerry Chesnutt, Bill Lott, Paul Guyas, Mike Burns, Vicky Verano, Bill Hillison, Tom Perkins, and Felton Wright

Felton Wright called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.  Quorum was established.

The Board reviewed the November minutes. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the minutes as presented.

New Business

Bill Hillison – Bill presented a proposed budget for the 2014 Bowlegs races.  A motion was made to accept the budget as presented, seconded, and approved.

Herb Wills – Herb presented a proposed budget for the 2013 Tannenbaum 6k.  A motion was made to accept the budget as presented, seconded, and approved.

Jackie McDaniel – Jackie presented a proposed budget for the 2014 GWTC 30k/15k.  A motion was made to accept the budget as presented, seconded, and approved.

Felton Wright – Felton told the Board that the Club would need to submit an application when there is a need to use the FSU track.

Felton Wright – Felton asked for the Board’s approval for Eric Godin to act as co-chair of the social committee.  There was a motion to approve Felton’s request, seconded, and approved. The social chair is now a voting member of the Board.

Felton Wright – Felton asked that the Club give the new head master of Maclay School, who runs and has family members that run, a complimentary membership for 2014 in recognition and appreciation for the Club’s use of the Maclay track.

David Yon – David reported that the 2013 Turkey Trot went well and that a complete fiscal report will be provided next month.  However, he asked for the Board’s approval to write checks to the charities; the Refuge House, Boys and Girls Club of the Big Bend and The Shelter.  A motion was made to approve David’s request, seconded, and approved.

Old Business

David Yon – Chris Sumner asked if GWTC would sponsor the open track meet to be held at Florida High on February 8, 2014.  In return for the sponsorship, $1 of each entry fee would be given to the Chenoweth Fund.  A motion was made to approve the Club’s sponsorship of the open track meet on February 8, 2014, seconded, and approved. 

 

Treasurer’s Report – Jerry Chesnutt 
There is $100,199.09 in the Club’s operating account that includes $5,000 in the Events 1 Account, and $25,939.59 in the Events 2 account.  There is $50,531 in the Investment account, $13,120.12 in the Chenoweth account, $7,721 in the Assets Replacement account and $11,690 in the Tri-Club account.

Membership Report – Mark Priddy 
Currently, there are 2,045 members in 1,107 households. This is an increase of 23 members and 10 new households over last month. 

Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates 
Nothing new to report.

Newsletter Report –Jackie McDaniel for Fred Deckert
Nothing new to report.

Clothing Coordinator Report –Abe Middleton via Email
Abe and Sara sold $300 worth of clothing at the recent Music Fest.

Equipment Report – Vicky Verano and Bill Lott
Bill reported that he purchased a new battery for the automated external defibrillator.  The cost was $350 to replace.  Vicky is stepping down as equipment manager and the Board is seeking a replacement for this position that could include more than one person..

Website Report – David Yon
Nothing new to report.

Chenoweth Fund Report – David Yon
The Committee received a request from Paul Hoover of Wakulla High School, for $200 for a student and runner, Mattie Harris, to attend a cross-country event.  Myrna Hoover, a member of the Chenoweth Committee and spouse of Paul Hoover, recused herself  from voting.  The remaining members of the Committee approved the request.  A motion was made to approve the request, seconded, and approved.

Triathlon Report – Rob McNeely via Email 
The Club is participating in the National Club Challenge, a 3-month mileage competition among U.S. Tri Clubs.  Approximately 125 Clubs are participating, and we are currently 3rd overall. The Holiday and Awards Party will be 6 – 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16, at Momo’s.  Pizza and selected beer provided.  Grand Prix awards and special annual awards will be presented.  

Lecture Series – Paul Guyas
Paul welcomes suggestions for new lecture series ideas.

Training Report 
No report.

Social Report – Kathy Lindsay
Nothing new to report.

Felton reminded everyone that the Holiday Party is December 14 at Shiloh Farms.

There being no further business to discuss; a motion to adjourn was made, seconded, and passed at 8:25 p.m.
