It remains the marquee event around the world. Not so long ago the entire country suddenly stopped to focus on the mile as a high school phenom named Alan Webb smashed the four minute barrier. He has nearly disappeared since, but the mile lives on and on Saturday the Wright family put on GWTC’s version of the event at the Maclay Breakfast on the Track.

Sarah Docter-Williams took the opportunity to smash her own record in the event by running the four lapper in 5:02.28. She now owns the top three times for women in this event that has been held since 1998. David Huntzinger took the top spot overall with a time of 4:45.20, good enough to beat second place and masters winner Gary Droze who finished in 4:49.54. Logon Wolcott and Andrew Mannheimer brought the total sub 5:00 finishers to four with times of 4:52.04 and 4:53.26. Fourteen year old Adriana Piekarewicz turned in an outstanding performance with a time of 5:23.92, signaling she is ready for cross country season. Julie Clark won the masters race for the women with the fourth fastest master time ever – 5:56.85.

As always there were lots of pancakes, music and awards to make this production worthy of the clamor the mile claims.
