Gulf Winds Track Club Minutes

Present: Herb Wills, Mary Jean Yon, David Yon, Jackie McDaniel, Mark Priddy, Mandy Hudson, Nancy Stedman, Tom Perkins, Abe Middleton, Kathy McDaris, Eric Godin, Lisa Unger, Mike Burns, and Felton Wright

Felton Wright called the meeting to order at 7:29 p.m.  Quorum was established.

The Board reviewed the May minutes. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the minutes as presented.

New Business

Mike Burns – Mike proposed that the Board create a strategic plan of what the Club wants to accomplish in the next three to five years.  After discussion among board members, a motion was made that Mike Burns be authorized to recruit two or three club members to poll the membership to see if there are any general needs from the Club.

Mary Jean Yon – Mary Jean updated the board on the activities of the Gadsden Correctional Facility running club.  On April 26, 115 runners finished a 5k held there.  The winner ran 21:36 and 12 runners ran under 25:11.The next 5k will be held in August.  On May 24, several runners ran a marathon or ultra on the grassy field at the facility.  The marathon winner won in a time of 4:11.  David Yon is researching ways to obtain new running shoes for the runners.

Felton Wright – Felton announced that the SMIRF running program would be held again this summer for rising middle school and high school runners.  Felton thanked the Board for approving $2,500 to donate to the city of Tallahassee to pay up (approximately $10 per hour) to ten people to provide oversight and coaching for the runners.  The program will start June 21 and last six weeks, 7:45 to 9:30 a.m.  A link is posted on the GWTC web page with details.

Felton Wright – Felton informed the Board that Maclay School has determined there is a need to have security each week at the summer track meets and wants GWTC to cover this cost.  The cost is $30 per week for a total of $240.  A motion was made to pay $240 for security costs, seconded, and approved.

Felton Wright – Felton informed the Board that the GWTC trailer is in need of a few repairs.  A motion was made to either increase the equipment budget by $1,000 for trailer repairs or allocate a new line item for trailer repairs in the amount of $1,000.  The motion was seconded and approved.

Felton Wright – Felton presented a proposed budget for the 2014 Breakfast on the Track.  A motion was made to approve the budget, seconded, and approved.

Felton Wright – Felton suggested to the Board that we might want to begin hosting a new board member orientation.  After discussion among board members, it was decided that an informal meeting for anyone who is interested in running for the Board would be held in the near future.  

Old Business:

Jennifer Kilinski called in to the meeting.  The South City Project is underway.  The children enrolled in the program are being taught water safety, running and biking.  Instructors from Titus are being paid to provide coaching services.  Titus is also contributing some in-kind services to help reduce costs.  Jennifer asked the Board to support the pilot program with a donation of $2,500 to help pay the coaches.  Approximately 20 kids are participating in the program so far.  A motion was made to donate $2,500 to Whole Child Leon for the purpose of supporting the program.

Treasurer’s Report – Felton Wright for Jerry Chesnutt 
As of May 31, there is $53,546 in the Club’s operating account that includes $20,128 in the Events 1 Account, and $11,678 in the Events 2 account.  There is $50,351 in the Investment account, and $14,315 in the Chenoweth account.

Membership Report – Mark Priddy 
There are 1,617 members in 515 households which is 27 more members than last month.  

Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates via email 
Calendar is in good shape.

Newsletter Report –Jackie McDaniel for Fred Deckert
Nothing new to report.

Clothing Coordinator Report –Abe Middleton 
Abe reported that they sold approximately $250 worth of merchandise at the recent Pot Luck run.  They also sold some items at the recent Trailblazers runs.

Equipment Report –Bill Lott and Vicky Droze
Nothing new to report

Website Report –David Yon
Nothing new to report.

Chenoweth Fund Report –David Yon
Lincoln High School gave the Club an award (plaque) for all the Club’s help over the years.

Triathlon Report –Kathy McDaris 
There are 328 tri club members.  The speaker for the June meeting will be Lauren Trantham Ormsbee, M.S., ACSM-CES, ACE Health Coach, and Wellness Coordinator at Florida State University.  She will talk about testing services that FSU’s Wellness program has available.

Lecture Series – Paul Guyas
Nothing new to report

Training Report 
Nothing new to report.

Social Report – Eric Godin 
Eric reported that there would be a June social with more information in the near future.  The first week of August is the ice cream social, which is held immediately after the last running of the Summer Track Series.

There being no further business to discuss; a motion to adjourn was made, seconded, and passed at 8:36 p.m.
