March 11, 2009 Board Meeting Hosted by Felton Wright

Present: Judy Alexander, David Yon, Mark Priddy, Mary Jean Yon, Jay Silvanima, Tim Unger, Seeley Gutierrez, Julie Clark, Felton Wright, Jackie McDaniel, Bill Lott,

Judy Alexander called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m. Quorum was established.

The board reviewed the February minutes. A motion was made, seconded and passed by unanimous vote to accept the minutes as presented.

Race Director Report –Mark Priddy, Flash 12k/6k
Mark Priddy gave a final report on the Flash 12k/6k race. A total of 135 runners ran which was the largest number in the history of the race. The race netted $782.33. A motion was made to donate $400 to the Gulf Winds Track Club with it being earmarked to pay facility fees required for the upcoming City Meet high school track and field meet to be held at FSU, and to donate the remaining $382.33 to the Chenoweth Fund. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Race Director Report – Jay Silvanima, Marathon and Half Marathon
The 2009 race netted $8,904. Jay submitted a first draft of the 2010 marathon budget. A motion was made to approve Jay’s advertising budget only at this early stage. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Racing Report – Tim Unger
Tim reported that the race director’s handbook found on the GWTC website needs to be updated. He confirmed that there will not be a GWTC racing team at the upcoming Gate River Run, however there will be a meeting place for all GWTC runners to stop by for pizza and beverages after the race. Tim is putting together a racing team for the upcoming Gate to Gate race.

Treasurer’s Report – Jackie McDaniel for Gene Opheim
The club has $76,656, which is a decrease of $11,945 for the month. The Chenoweth Fund has $15,372, which is a decrease of $354. The Tri Club has $904.08.

Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates

Training Report – Julie Clark
The Springtime training group has approximately 60 runners attending each week. The training is going well.

Equipment Report – Bill Lott for Kevin French
One of the Chronomix recorders is broken and has been sent out for repair.

Chenoweth Fund Report – David Yon
Lincoln High School track and field coaches requested $1,300 to purchase track team uniforms. The Chenoweth committee approved $1,000. A motion was made to approve this request. The motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote.

Membership Report – Mark Priddy
The club has 974 members in 541 households, including 70 new members in 40 households this month. Mark is attempting to contact previous club members who have not yet renewed and encourage them to join again.

Triathlete Report – Jackie McDaniel for Lisa Cox
The Triathlon Club (Tri Club) has grown to 108 members, the largest number to date. The next
Tri Club meeting is Monday, March 16th, at 7:00 pm at Momo’s on Market Street. In preparation for Red Hills, Kathy McDaris has made arrangements to have Bob Smith, a USAT Official, come to the meeting and speak about USAT rules for the triathlon. Also presenting is Jana Messing, a friend of Ann and Jeff Bowman who is visiting from Taos. She will be speaking about energy medicine. The Tri Club’s first newsletter has been posted on the website and it was sent to all Tri Club members. The next newsletter will go out in April. Bobby York has done a great job with creating and publishing the newsletter. Bobby is also working on a promotional pamphlet about the Tri Club to be handed out at future events. Chuck Kemeny and Mike Weyant held a swim clinic on Sunday, March 8th with a great turnout at Morcom Aquatic Center. There will be another club-sponsored swim session for Tri Club members in 2 weeks – this time at Lake Hall for an open-water swim and pointers on using a wetsuit. The next Tri Club board meeting will be Monday, May 11, 2009.

Old Business:

GWTC 30k/15k Venue Update – Jackie McDaniel
Jerry McDaniel has reserved the Retreat at Bradley’s Pond for January 16, 2010, to stage the GWTC 30k/15k. The building is available to the track club from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If the grand prix committee has an interest in scheduling the awards ceremony at the retreat the evening of January 16, Jerry has offered to contact the management group to request extended hours for the same date. Judy Alexander will present the offer to the grand prix committee at their next meeting.

Before the meeting ended, Judy Alexander asked for assistance recruiting traffic volunteers for the upcoming Springtime Tallahassee 10k/5k/1mile race. She will need 25 or more traffic volunteers on race day.

There being no further business to discuss, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and passed unanimously at 8:39 p.m.
