March 10, 2010 Board Meeting Hosted by Tom Perkins at Premier Health & Fitness Center

Present: Julie Clark, David Yon, Felton Wright, Bill Lott, Jackie McDaniel, Tom Perkins, Bob Macdonald, Seeley Gutierrez, Lisa Unger, Herb Wills, Mary Jean Yon, Fred Deckert, Margarete Deckert, Charlie Yates, Jerry Chesnutt, Vicky Verano, Jeanne O’Kon, Mark Priddy, Nancy Stedman, Jay Silvanima, Bob Keller, and Judy Alexander

Judy Alexander called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m. Quorum was established.

The Board reviewed the February minutes. A motion was made, seconded and passed by unanimous vote to accept the minutes that were published in the February edition of the Fleet Foot.

New Business

Jeanne O’Kon – Jeanne presented a report to the Board on the awards and expenses associated with the 2010 annual awards meeting. The Committee stayed within the allotted budget and has received many compliments on the awards presented to the award winners.

Lisa Unger – Lisa submitted a proposal to the Board requesting approval for funds to purchase a bench from Friends of our Parks. The bench will be placed at the Forest Meadows soccer field area, by the tree that was recently planted in memory of Mike Schneider. The bench will have a plaque on it indicating it is dedicated by GWTC in memory of our running friends. Additional plaques may be added as needed. A motion was made to approve a budget not to exceed $600 for this purpose. The motion was seconded, and passed unanimously.

Nancy Stedman and Jay Silvanima – Nancy and Jay presented a report on the 2010 Tallahassee Marathon/Half Marathon. The race netted approximately $9,000. They submitted a proposed 2011 marathon budget. A motion was made to tentatively approve the proposed 2011 marathon budget, requesting that the budget be presented and reviewed again in a few months, when more information about revenues and expenses will be known. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Judy Alexander – Judy requested Board approval to retain Jerry Chesnutt as club treasurer for 2010. A motion was made to approve Judy’s request, seconded, and passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report – Jerry Chesnutt

Currently, there is $9,169 in the Club’s checking account, and $77,128 in a certificate of deposit. The Chenoweth Fund has $17,099.

Membership Report –Mark Priddy

The Club has 1,090 members in 574 households including 65 new members in 30 households this month.

Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates

Several non-club 5K races have been cancelled. Charlie continues to juggle the calendar race dates in an effort to accommodate race directors.

Newsletter Report – Fred Deckert

No report.

Clothing Coordinator Report –Margarete Deckert

No report.

Equipment Report –Vicky Verano

Vicky reported that the equipment rental form that was placed on the GWTC webpage is working out well. All guidelines for renting race equipment as well as the equipment list are on the form and this has streamlined the process. The club recently purchased additional equipment creating a need for more storage space. Vicky requested approval to relocate the equipment to a larger storage unit. A motion was made to approve Vicky’s request to lease a larger storage unit that is closer to her house. The request was seconded and passed unanimously.

Website Report – David Yon

Peg Griffin has been working with David Bigoney to make the website user friendly for visually impaired individuals. Progress has been made and Peg will continue to work on problems as they occur.

Chenoweth Fund Report – David Yon

No report.

Robert Macdonald

The triathlete club elected board members in January. The officers are: President – Robert McDonald; Vice President – Bobby York; Secretary – Lisa Cox; Treasurer – Jerry Chesnutt. At Large Directors are: Jeff Bowman, Michael Weyant and Karen Muñoz. The Tri Club has over 200 members. The first order for the new Tri Club uniforms has been sent directly to K-Swiss who is working directly with the uniform company Squadra. Individual orders can be made at Higher Ground throughout the year. HG is now the local K-Swiss distributor in Tallahassee for GWTC members. K-Swiss through Higher Ground will make shoes available to GWTC members at a 20% discount. K-Swiss is also sponsoring a male and female elite triathlete from the club. Seeley Gutierrez is the female club K-Swiss ambassador. The tri club board will select the male ambassador from interested members who apply. K-Swiss is also providing five pairs of shoes to provide to youths and other persons who may be in need.

Lecture Series Report –Nancy Stedman

Karen Harvey, Florida State women’s cross country head coach, will be the guest speaker in March. The lecture will be at Premier Health and Fitness Center on March 19, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Training Report – Judy Alexander for Robin Borschel & TJ Cutchins

There are 112 members in the Springtime Training Group. There will be a preview run of the Springtime race course on March 20, at 8:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to join the training group for this run.

Social Coordinator Report – Kathy Lindsay

No report.

Prior to adjournment, Tom Perkins reported to the Board that GWTC will not be named as an additional insured on the Tallahassee High School Track & Field Championships insurance policy. After some discussion among Board members, it was decided that the club will continue with plans to be a title sponsor of this event.

Mary Jean Yon brought a “recycle” sign to the meeting to show the Board. These signs will be at all club races this year indicating where to deposit all recyclable items.

There being no further business to discuss, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and passed unanimously at 8:44 p.m.
