Times and Temperatures Drop

by Kristin Sweeney, October 3, 2010

In addition to the falling temperatures this weekend, times produced by Tallahassee runners also dropped. Chiles traveled to Jacksonville for the Bale-n-Trail race held at Bartram Trail High School. With their top five placing in the top twenty-five, the girls triumphed over the other twenty-eight teams. Lily Williams came in first (17:54), followed by Carly Thomas (18:14), and Jodie McGuff placed fifth (19:18). Taylor Buzzard’s fifth place finish (16:09) contributed to the boys’ team taking home fourth place.

Here in Tallahassee, Godby High School hosted the Cougar XC Challenge at Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park on Saturday morning. FSU High School, John Paul II, Lincoln, Maclay, North Florida Christian, and Rickards competed. Maclay received third overall with Stefanie Kurgatt dominating the field in a time of 19:22, and Kristin Sweeney (20:17) coming in second. FSU High placed sixth with their squad led by senior Allie Murray (22:02) in sixteenth place. Lincoln followed in seventh place, and John Paul II earned twelfth.

In the boys’ competition, Lincoln obtained first place due to sophomore Jacob Slupecki’s first (16:09) and Trevor Touchton’s third (16:35). Patrick Swain (16:39) received fourth helping to put Maclay in fifth place. Earning fourth overall, FSU High was led by Trey Edwards’s ninth place time of 17:06. Godby was in ninth, and North Florida Christian was in tenth.

Next weekend, many of these teams are planning on racing in Tallahassee at Apalachee Regional Park in the FSU Invitational. Hopefully, these teams will once again produce speedy times after yet another great week!
