Chenoweth Endowment Fund

Gulf Winds Track Club (“GWTC”) has established an endowment fund in the name of Dean and Jenny Chenoweth, The Chenoweth Fund (hereinafter the “Fund”). The purpose of the Fund is to promote running and fitness in the Big Bend area by assisting local running organizations, individuals and members of GWTC in their efforts to achieve athletic or academic excellence.

The Fund operates pursuant to the rules and guidelines found at

If GWTC is to fulfill the purpose of the Fund, we must increase the monies available for assistance to runners. Here are some ways YOU can help:

  • Include a contribution when you renew your membership. When you write your check, add a little extra; but please designate “$(amount) to Chenoweth Fund.”
  • Support the Pot Luck Bash 4 Miler and More (See link below)
  • Send a contribution anytime. Make your check payable to “GWTC-Chenoweth Fund.”
  • Contact a business. If you know of any business or group interested in supporting this effort, put them in touch with a Board Member. It can be a great way for a business to get some positive advertising in the community.
  • Contributors may be listed in the Fleet Foot. Please note if you wish to remain anonymous.

The Great Pot Luck Bash 4 mile Run and Celebration

Great Pot Luck Bash and Celebration

Date: June 3, 2017. Location: Forestmeadows Tennis Facility. GWTC prides itself in supporting youth running, in part, through the Chenoweth Fund. This event, as much social as competitive, serves as a fund-raiser and opportunity to recognize the outstanding high school track-and-field and cross-country athletes in the area with scholarship awards. You cannot wear a watch during this prediction run and you can’t beat the low-country boil and pot luck dinner after the race.

The off-road race was first held in 1998 and is under the direction of the Chenoweth Committee: Doug Bell, Myrna Hoover, Mary Register, Toma Wilkerson and David Yon. The trails of the Eleanor Klapps-Phipps park are beautiful and the perfect place to hold this race because in addition the beauty they offer, there are a lot of opportunities to change up a course. The Chenoweth Fund has now awarded more than $121,000 in scholarships to 203 recipients on behalf of GWTC.
